Design Fundamentals of Modern Quilting
60-90 minutes depending on desired program length
We’ll explore the design basics of modern quilting including the relationship of form and function. We’ll review key concepts of scale, balance, negative space and color and how these are central to modern quilt design. Part lecture, part workshop, this will provide things to consider when designing your own modern quilts.
Modernism, Fabric, Technology and Communication - A Brief Review of Influences and Enablers of Modern Quilting
60-90 minutes depending on desired program length
Modern quilting is a perfect storm. This lecture in four parts covers a historical review modernism in fine art, architecture and interior design and the impact of the cultural rise of quality design on fabric design. A review of technological advances in quilting (rotary cutter) and communication (social media) will round out the final half of the lecture.
